Architecture diagrams with traffic you can see.

Motionix draws system and cloud architecture diagrams where requests visibly travel. Give each connector a flow, colour the request path apart from the background work, and export a GIF for the README, the design doc or the incident review.

The editor is free. No card needed.

How one order travels: a web app architecture where the request path is solid blue and the work queued for later is amber.

HowThree steps

How it works

  1. 01

    Place the parts

Services, queues, databases and clients as shapes and icons, grouped into regions, clusters or tiers.

  2. 02

    Wire the traffic

Connect them, label each hop with what it carries, and give the busy paths a flow that shows direction and pace.

  3. 03

    Ship it

SVG for the docs, a GIF for the README and the pull request, MP4 for the architecture review.

WhatFeatures

For the diagrams engineers draw

Packets on the line

Tokens ride a connector from caller to callee, so a reader sees what moves where, and in which order.

Request path and side work

Solid lines for the request, dashed amber for what is queued after it: the convention the web app template uses.

More than boxes

Sequence diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, networks, pipelines, circuits and P&IDs all start from templates.

Isometric when it helps

Put objects on isometric planes and give them depth for the three-dimensional rack or cloud view.

Labels that follow

Latency, protocol or payload on the line itself, moving with it when you rearrange.

Describe the system

Ask Weave for "a web app with a CDN, a load balancer, three app servers and a Postgres primary" and edit the result.

FAQQuestions

Questions, answered.

How do I animate an architecture diagram?

Draw the services and connect them with Motionix connectors, then give each connector a flow effect such as dashes or packets. Set the order things appear if the story has steps, and export a GIF or video.

Can I add an animated diagram to a GitHub README?

Export the diagram as a GIF and add it to the README like any image; GitHub plays GIFs inline. GIF, MP4 and WebM export come with Pro and Advanced; PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG and PDF are free on every plan.

Can it draw sequence and ER diagrams?

Yes. The OAuth sign-in sequence and the library ER diagram templates are ordinary pages you can change, with lifelines, messages, tables and relationships.

Can I get the diagram as SVG?

Yes, on every plan. SVG and PDF exports are vectors and show the finished diagram, with every element in place.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Motionix runs in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and saves your projects to your account.

Draw it once. Let it move.
